Who We Are and Our Beliefs

Wisconsin Vision, founded in 1978, is the largest family owned vision care organization in the State of Wisconsin with 26 locations. In 1996 Wisconsin Vision entered the Indiana market in Fort Wayne and now has 6 locations in Indiana, called Heartland Vision. Eye Boutique was a well-established metro Chicago optical group with 6 locations when it became part of the Wisconsin Vision family in 2008 (bringing the total locations to 38). In addition, LBC Optics is the wholly owned and operated spectacle lens lab that services all locations with high quality digital lenses and coatings.

The mission statement of our organization reflects the family values of the organization: “To Provide SPECtacular Team Member and Customer ExperienceS”. It is no coincidence that “team member” is before “customer”. We believe team members that know they are a critical part of an organization will extend that experience to patients and customers.

Since the inception of the organization, one of the main pillars of our value proposition is that our professional Doctors of Optometry performed the entire exam with patients. It was felt that this form of practice allowed the Optometrist to connect and develop more of a doctor-patient relationship. Over the years, we have begun to adjust this way of practice to conform to the preference(s) of our Optometrists and have included technologies such as Optos, Nuerolens, Heru, Icare tonometry and continue to explore other technologies to advance patient care.

In addition, today there are nine (9) locations that perform tele-optometry to supplement the in person Optometrists. We have engaged the gold standard of tele-optometry platforms –Digital Optometrics. In 2022, over 12,000 comprehensive eye exams were performed on this platform with an overall patient satisfaction rating of 95%. In January of 2023, we were the only provider chosen by National Vision Administrators (NVA) to conduct a six month beta test for reimbursement of such exams along with establishing stringent patient care protocols.

Within our Centers, we pride ourselves on the largest selection of frames for patients to choose from – 2 – 3x larger than most competitors. We take time to not only review frame sales data but also community demographics when building a frame inventory. In addition, we work with all major contact lens manufacturers including Johnson & Johnson, Alcon, Cooper Vision and B&L along with specialty contacts including those used in myopia management.

Professional relations is very important to us and we have a practicing staff Optometrist who acts as the Director of Professional Relations. This role is available for questions, trainings, and assistance with most any matters related to the practice of Optometry within the organization. In addition, this role is tasked with communicating all updates and routinely checking in with Optometrists to offer support and act as a professional liaison.

Opportunities for Students

We welcome any student at any time to experience our environment. Many first year students may never have actually had the chance to shadow or even work in a retail optical location. We even offer students to contact us regarding two opportunities:

  1. Summer break employment to work as an Optician or Optician/Technician and experience the flow, team member and customer experience – all while being paid! There are opportunities to speak with Optometrists and seek their guidance while moving forward through your educational journey and experience tele-optometry.
  2. Spend time in a practice observing Optometrists as they perform exams and engage with patients
  3. Once you graduate and are awaiting your license and you have committed to our organization, start as soon as you want in an “intern” role until such time as your license arrives and credentialing is complete. You will benefit from additional experience and a salary to begin your career as an Optometrist.
