The Importance of Professionally Fit Frames

As an optical company, we understand the excitement of new frames.

You went to one of Wisconsin Vision's awesome opticians and  picked out the perfect pair from one of our great vendors. The next step is to get the glasses and start wearing them, right? Hold up-don't forget the importance of having your frames fit by one of our optical professionals! But why is this step so important?

Having your frames fit to your face ensures your comfort and the health of your vision. Frames that are not properly fit can lead to  optical issues that we want our patients to be aware of so we can work together and take steps of avoidance. There are a few issues that we will address that can stem from improperly fitted frames.

The first is if your frames are too big. Frames that are too big can lead to something called an induced prism, which is when the optical center of your visual axis is not centered correctly. Meaning the parts of the glasses that are designed to make you see better won't be able to do their job. A common symptom of this is if you start having double vision in your peripherals.

The next issue that frames can cause comes from your prescription and pupillary distance. This is a measurement taken by a professional that ensures the strongest part of your lens aligns properly with your eye. If you have a progressive lens, one of our Wisconsin Vision opticians will ensure the frame has enough room for reading area and distance.

What about the side of the frame? Improperly fitted frames in the temple area can lead to migraines and headaches. Our optical professionals can show you exactly where the frame should fit on the temple to reduce chances of pain from your frames.

Glasses are an important investment towards the quality of your life and ability to function in every day tasks. At Wisconsin Vision, our motto is "See.More.Life" because that's exactly what we want for each of our patients. If you have questions or are not sure if your frames are fitting properly, please visit one of our locations or discuss it with your chosen optician or optical professionals.
